The Excretory (or Urinary) System

Our excretory system helps our bodies to get rid of excess water and waste products from the blood and some organs and turns them into urine.

The main excretory organs are: the kidneys, the ureter, the bladder and the urethra.

The circulatory system (The human body for kids)

The circulatory system moves blood through the heart and around the body in the arteries and veins. Blood gives our body nutrients and oxygen.

The heart is divided into four parts: the left and right atriums and the left and right ventricles.

Have you ever wondered what happens after we breathe?. How does the air travel inside our body?

Oxygen enters our blood through the respiratory system when we breathe in. Then, the carbon dioxide we don't need leaves our body when we breathe out.

Our nervous system

We have a BRAIN inside our head. The brain controls everything we do. We have NERVES, all over our body.

The brain and the nerves are part of our nervous system. They help us interact with the world around us.

Our locomotor (or musculoskeletal) system

Our LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM is made of BONES, MUSCLES and JOINTS.

BONES are hard and rigid.

MUSCLES are soft and elastic.

JOINTS make the skeleton flexible. Joints help us move. There are joints in our arms and legs.

A joint is the place where two or more bones come together. Our skeleton bends and moves at the joints with help from our muscles.

How do our bodies move?

Muscles help move our bones. All our bones have muscles connected to them. Muscles work in pairs to pull the bones.

Feel your arm muscles: biceps and triceps. Contraction and relaxation of bicep and tricep, an antagonistic pair of muscles, of the arm.

Meet Paul Klee, a famous artist

Paul Klee was born in Paul Klee was born on 18th December 1879, Switzerland. His father was a German music teacher and his mother was a Swiss singer.

In 1898, Klee studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He then went to Italy, visiting Rome, Florence and Naples.

In 1911 Paul Klee became friends with Wassily Kandinsky, and in 1912 Klee travelled to Paris and was inspired by Cubism and the use of colour. Klee started to experiment with colour and define his own style.

He borrows from Cubism, Surrealism and Expressionism. In 1933 he completed more than 500 pieces of work, and in 1939, he completed 1200. He finished more than 9000 pieces of art in his lifetime.

He died on 29th June 1940.

This is one of his most famous paintings. It's called "Senecio". What colours can you see?, are they warm or cold?. What shapes do you see?. Enjoy art!.

Have you ever seen a rainbow?. Sometimes when the sun is shining and it is rainy somewhere at the same time, you can see a rainbow. It's a huge arch of colours in the sky. The sun's light is "white", but the water droplets break it up into seven different colours, always in this order:

RED

ORANGE

YELLOW

GREEN

BLUE

INDIGO

VIOLET or PURPLE
